Reader and Kavoo Traveler John Durnham of Baltimore writes in to talk to us about a recent negative experience on a commercial flight. Read on to discover the horror of the untagged baggage …
The Untagged Baggage Nightmare
One of the main reasons I’ve been using you guys for the last few years has everything to do with this terrible untagged baggage experience I had. You’ll never believe this story when I tell you.
I typically took my flights on a particular airline – name withheld for obvious reasons – and I started noticing their service going down the tubes with each flight I took. Basic amenities such as food and in flight entertainment changed drastically.
I explored the cost of a private plane, but I’m not really too fond of having a pilot relationship with people I don’t trust. I don’t want to learn to fly a plane myself, and hiring a pilot after hearing some of the news stories about what celebrities go through in plane crashes was harrowing.
So, I kept on doing the commercial flight thing with this shoddy airline.
But the seats and rows were getting more cramped, the food was worse, and the flight staff were a little surlier each time. One day, I had an incident with my airline that made me swear I’d never go back.
Some Things are Worse than Cramped Planes
Somehow, my luggage tags snapped off my checked baggage during transportation. The airline also managed to lose my baggage, which meant – you guessed it – I would never see my luggage again.
I can deal with losing a few times, but I can’t deal with terrible service. No one at the airport knew how to handle me. They all knew I was raging angry, but I was way past my capacity to deal with the situation when someone actually talked to me rationally. They even threatened to remove me from the airport for being upset!
“Well, wouldn’t you be?” I asked one of the attendants who was assisting me. She conceded that she would, but I still couldn’t get any answers. Rather than allowing me to leave the airport and head back to the hotel, I was stuck there for hours, with promises that the situation would be fixed.
It literally took days before the airline could determine that my expensive suitcase and all my stuff were pretty much gone forever. I really didn’t have anything to substantiate the value of the items in the suitcase, so I ended up with a $500 voucher. One of my suits costs that much!

The friendly folks at Kavoo aren’t going to just deliver bad service, brush me off and lose my luggage. I always have what I need close to me, and the service has been nothing less than impeccable.
